A stunning example of an ammonite fossil of the species Psiloceras planorbis from North Somerset, UK.
The piece of limestone matrix measures 88 mm (3.5 inches) across and contains one complete fossil ammonite, which measures 52 mm (1 inch) across, which is a good size for this species. The matrix is original and has been shaped for display. The ammonite is well preserved and has been prepared out of the rock to reveal the shell, which display some nice subtle iridescence/pearlescence with different colours appearing as the angle the fossil is viewed from changes.
The fossil weighs 100 grams. These ammonites make wonderful display items and are real conversation starters.
Around 200 million years old (Hettangian, Early Jurassic), this fossil would make a wonderful addition to any collection.
