A stunning example of a highly pyritised ammonite fossil of the species Crucilobiceras densinodulum from the world-famous Jurassic Coast beach of Charmouth, Dorset UK.
The fossil measures 76 mm (3 inches) across with matrix, which is very large for this species. The matrix around the exposed shell is the crushed outer whorl of the ammonite, meaning the whole fossil is made up of the shell. It is very well preserved with great detail in the ribbing. It has a beautiful pyritic metallic shine. There is also a second smaller ammonite in the matrix.
These are very popular and sought-after ammonites. It weighs 143 grams.
Around 196 million years old, this fossil would make a wonderful addition to any collection.
