A stunning example of a highly pyritised ammonite fossil of the species Crucilobiceras densinodulum from the world-famous Jurassic Coast beach of Charmouth, Dorset UK.
The fossil measures 51mm (2 inches) across with matrix, which is large for this species. The matrix around the exposed shell is the crushed outer whorl of the ammonite, meaning the whole fossil is made up of the shell. It is very well preserved with great detail in the ribbing. It has a beautiful pyritic metallic shine. it is perfect to the centre on both sides, which is hard to find in these large examples.
This species is usually much smaller than this, and large examples as high quality as this one are hard to find these days. They are very popular and sought-after ammonites.
Around 196 million years old, this fossil would make a wonderful addition to any collection.
