A stunning example of a highly pyritised ammonite fossil of the species Eoderoceras (Eteoderoceras) armatum from the world-famous Jurassic Coast beach of Charmouth, Dorset UK.
The fossil measures 39 mm (1.52 inches) across with matrix. The ammonite is very well preserved on both sides with highly detailed suture lines, ribbing, and spines. These are very popular ammonites but are becoming hard to find due to lack of erosion of the right layers in the cliffs. These large examples are especially uncommon these days.
Around 196 million years old, this fossil would make a wonderful addition to any collection.
