A stunning pair of ammonite fossils of the species Xipheroceras planicosta from the world-famous Jurassic Coast beach of Lyme Regis, Dorset UK.
These two fossils are both of the same species and preservation type and match each other beautifully so make great display pieces together. The two pieces of limestone matrix measure 91 mm (3.6 inches) and 93 (3.65 inches) across and the fossil ammonites both measure 35 mm (1.4 inches). The ammonites are both very well preserved and have been prepared out of the rock to reveal the whole shells. The ribs are very finely defined, and the yellow and grey colours are beautiful. A really unique pair of fossils.
Two great examples of an uncommon species and impressive in the flesh. The fossils weigh 190 and 235 grams each and both have cut flat bases to allow them to stand freely for display.
Around 196 million years old (Sinemurian, Early Jurassic), these fossils would make a wonderful addition to any collection.
