A stunning example of an iridescent ammonite fossil of the species Psiloceras planorbis from North Somerset, UK.

The piece of limestone matrix measures 100 mm (3.96 inches) wide and contains an ammonite, which measures 32 mm, and an unusual bivalve shell that measures 20 mm. The ammonite and bivalve are both well preserved and have been prepared out of the rock to reveal their detail. The ammonite displays some subtle iridescent colours that change depending on the angle that the fossil is viewed at with a nice red sheen. The fossil weighs 250 grams.

Around 200 million years old (Hettangian, Early Jurassic), this fossil would make a wonderful addition to any collection.
