A nice example of a fossil bivalve shellfish of the genus Gryphaea from Hock Cliff, Gloucestershire.

The fossil measures 65 mm (2.55 inches) long, which is a good size for this fossil type. The shell is that of an Early Jurassic bivalve also known as a "Devil's toenail" due to its gnarly, curled shape. It is in good condition with the growth lines of the shell distinct and it has both valves of the shell in position, which is sought after in this genus.

Around 198 million years old (Sinemurian, Early Jurassic), this fossil would make a wonderful addition to any collection.
