A highly pyritised ammonite fossil of the species Gleviceras glevense from the world-famous Jurassic Coast beach of Charmouth, Dorset UK.

The fossil measures 103 mm (4 inches) across with matrix, which is very large for this species. The ammonite is very well preserved - ribs are very finely defined and the pyritic colour and shine is beautiful. It has unusually strong ribbing and suture lines. Part of the outer whorl has worn away. A great example of an uncommon species and incredible in the flesh. This species is not often found in this condition.

These pyrite ammonites have long been used to make beautiful natural jewellery.

Around 196 million years old, this fossil would make a wonderful addition to any collection.
