A stunning example of a highly pyritised ammonite fossil of the species Oxynoticeras lymense from the world-famous Jurassic Coast beach of Charmouth, Dorset UK.
The fossil measures 85 mm (3.35 inches) across, which is very large for this species. The ammonite is very well preserved on both sides with detailed ribbing. It is very unusual as much of the original shell is still preserved in calcite on top of the pyrite. The metallic iron pyrite colour and shine is beautiful.
Around 196 million years old, this fossil would make a wonderful addition to any collection
