A stunning example of an ammonite fossil of the species Psiloceras planorbis from North Somerset, UK.

The piece of limestone matrix measures 105 mm (4.1 inches) tall and contains one complete and one partial fossil ammonite, the largest of which measures 63 mm (2.5 inches) across, which is a good size for this species. The matrix is original and has been shaped for display with a flat base to allow it to stand by itself. The ammonite is well preserved and has been prepared out of the rock to reveal the shell, which display some nice very subtle iridescence/pearlescence with different colours appearing as the angle the fossil is viewed from changes. There is also a rare bivalve shell encrusting the aperture of the ammonite, which likely attached itself and grew on the ammonite shell when it was on the seafloor.

The fossil weighs 380 grams. These ammonites make wonderful display items and are real conversation starters.

Around 200 million years old (Hettangian, Early Jurassic), this fossil would make a wonderful addition to any collection.
