A stunning example of an ammonite fossil of the species Psiloceras planorbis from North Somerset, UK.
The piece of limestone matrix measures 172 mm (6.8 inches) across and contains one complete ammonite, which measures 45 mm (1.75 inches) across. The matrix is original and has been shaped for display with a flat base to allow it to stand by itself. The ammonite is well preserved and has been prepared out of the rock to reveal the shell, which display some nice subtle iridescence/pearlescence with different colours appearing as the angle the fossil is viewed from changes.
The fossil weighs 1215 grams. These ammonites make wonderful display items and are real conversation starters.
Around 200 million years old (Hettangian, Early Jurassic), this fossil would make a wonderful addition to any collection.
