A high-quality replica of a large, rare, and complete specimen of a pyritised crinoid fossil from the Jurassic Coast beach of Charmouth. The fossil was found in a large block of shale and carefully prepared to reveal the amazing detail of the crinoid. It was covered in a layer of iron pyrite, giving it a golden sheen. This replica is hand made from a strong lightweight plastic resin and backed with a plywood board and hand painted to match the original fossil as closely as possible. These replicas make fantastic display pieces that grace any wall space and create a unique focus. Crinoid replicas are very uncommon and make really unique pieces. This one will be a real conversation starter!

The original crinoid is from the (Sinemurian) Early Jurassic Charmouth Mudstone Formation and is around 196 million years old. It measures 40 x 35 x 5 cm and weighs 2 kg.

Crinoids are echinoderms closely related to starfish and sea urchins, and have been around for many hundreds of millions of years. They still live today in the deep seas around the world.

Please note: these replicas are hand made to order, so take a little longer for delivery than our other products. Typically, they take around 3-5 working days longer for delivery.
