A stunning example of a calcite ammonite fossil of the species Psiloceras planorbis from North Somerset, UK.

The piece of limestone matrix measures 132 mm (5.2 inches) tall and the fossil ammonite measures 48 mm across. The ammonite is well preserved in the centre of the original matrix in which is was found and has been prepared out of the rock to reveal the whole shell. The shell displays some subtle iridescent colours with a buff sheen. The fossil weighs 450 grams and has a cut-flat base to allow it to stand freely for display.

Around 200 million years old (Hettangian, Early Jurassic), this fossil would make a wonderful addition to any collection.
