A stunning example of an ammonite fossil of the species Psiloceras planorbis from North Somerset, UK.
The piece of limestone matrix measures 85 mm (3.35 inches) tall and the fossil ammonite measures 45 mm across. The ammonite is well preserved and has been prepared out of the rock to reveal the whole shell. The shell displays some beautiful iridescent colours that change as the angle the fossil is viewed from changes with a nice red sheen. The fossil weighs 145 grams and has a cut-flat base to allow it to stand freely for display. These ammonites make wonderful display items and are real conversation starters.
Around 200 million years old (Hettangian, Early Jurassic), this fossil would make a wonderful addition to any collection.
