This means the calyx (mouth) is in the centre of the head with the arms and pinnules radiating away from it, all flattened down. The detail in the calyx is especially good and it shows a distinctive 3D geometric pattern of individual plates (ossicles).\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIt is preserved in limestone with a thin layer of pyrite on the surface. Many hours of preparation have gone into this specimen. It has some rock-coloured resin on the back so it is strong and stable. These crinoids are very sought after and not easy to find these days. It weighs 675 grams.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThese colonies lived in the Jurassic seas attached to pieces of floating driftwood.
