A stunning example of an ammonite fossil of the species Psiloceras planorbis from North Somerset, UK.
The piece of limestone matrix measures 115 mm (4.53 inches) tall and the fossil ammonite measures 62 mm across. The ammonite is well preserved and has been prepared out of the rock to reveal the shell, which displays some nice iridescent colours with red and rainbow flashes when the angle the fossil is viewed from changes. The colours on this example are particularly bright and saturated for this species. The fossil weighs 165 grams and has a cut-flat base to allow it to stand freely for display. These ammonites make wonderful display items and are real conversation starters.
Around 200 million years old (Hettangian, Early Jurassic), this fossil would make a wonderful addition to any collection.
