A highly pyritised ammonite fossil of the species Microderoceras inexpectans from the world-famous Jurassic Coast beach of Charmouth, Dorset UK.

The fossil measures 26 mm (1 inch) across, which is large for this species. The ammonite is very well preserved on both sides, which is hard to find on this species at this size. The ribs are very finely defined and the golden colour is beautiful. This species has a nice row of small spines/tubercles on the edge of each whorl, and these are well preserved in this example. A great example of an uncommon species. Incredible in the flesh and one of the biggest and best of this species we have ever found.

Around 196 million years old, this fossil would make a wonderful addition to any collection
