A stunning example of an ammonite fossil of the species Psiloceras planorbis from North Somerset, UK.

The piece of limestone matrix measures 200 mm (7,87 inches) tall and the fossil ammonite measures 65mm (2.6 inches) across, which is large for this species. The ammonite is well preserved and has been prepared out of the rock to reveal the whole shell. The shell displays some nice subtle dark iridescent colours with deep red flashes when the angle the fossil is viewed from changes. The fossil weighs 1225 grams and has a cut-flat base to allow it to stand freely for display. These ammonites make wonderful display items and are real conversation starters.

These fossils are highly sought after and very hard to find. They are preserved in the same way as the famous Canadian "Ammolite" ammonites that are turned into valuable gemstones. The fossil weighs 95 grams. These fossils make great unusual gifts and each one is totally unique.

Around 200 million years old (Hettangian, Early Jurassic), this fossil would make a wonderful addition to any collection.
